A quiet place

It was a few days before Halloween when I met up with Gage for this test shoot in the small town of Copperton, Utah. Except for some kids playing in the leaves in the park, the town was quiet. Still. Maybe a truck passed? Two girls approached us, interested in what we were doing. They asked if Gage was a model. I said yes. The girls blushed. The afternoon was cool. Getting cooler. Overcast. The leaves with their ripened crunch. You could feel Halloween was near. But not in how things looked but felt. It’s hard to describe.

I couldn’t remember the last time I asked anyone to play in the leaves. It reminded me of when I was just starting out. The same way railroad tracks and brick walls do. Playing with the camera and it’s possibilities. Thinking you’re thinking out of the box, unaware that you haven’t thought that far out of it.

It was kind of a nice place to return to.
