Pictures with dad

In honor of Father's Day, here's a collection of a few of my favorite shots -- that I've taken over the years -- featuring fathers with their sons and sons with their fathers.

The Penguin Brothers

Chill Dudes

When I invited Brandon and Blake Barkdull -- the brothers behind The Penguin Brothers ice cream shop -- into the studio for a quick portrait session, I only asked that they bring their infamous ice blue suits. The tiny velvet penguin was only a bonus.

The Carter Family

Gone with the wind

It was windy, when I rolled into Las Vegas to shoot the Carter family. So, we rescheduled for the following week when I was planning to roll back in.

I returned. It was still windy. But, it couldn't stop us and it didn't stop us.

I had the best time with the Carter family out in the Nevada desert.

The Legas Brothers // Five years later

I first met and photographed these two back in 2010 -- while over at their home to photograph their father. I had them jump in, along with their younger brother, for a few shots with their dad and then afterwords we had them try to out-flex one another in front of the camera. They tried to hold "mean faces" as they faced each other but the giggles kept winning in the end.

Last fall, while meeting up to take the oldest's senior pictures, we revisited a few of those shots. This time the giggles were a lot deeper.
