The Gee Family

Gee-Family1.jpg

Gee, it's good to see you!

It was great working with the Gee family again. And, since I hadn't seen them since before they set out to travel the world, it was fun to catch up on their Bucket List Family adventures.

I had photographed their family just days before the arrival of their second child and they were excited to do the same thing before the arrival of their third.

Olympian, Steven Nyman

Back in black

I had been wanting to get Olympic alpine ski racer, Steven Nyman, back in front of my lens for the longest time. I first photographed him (along with his brothers and the Hale sisters) back in 2006 for a magazine article and I let my nerves and lack of experience behind the camera get the best of me. Feeling defeated, I only hoped I might get another chance to work with him in the future.

That chance finally came.

More sweat than snow

We shot up in Park City, Utah, where I had tapped up white seamless paper to the backside of a local business (permission granted) to create an instant studio.

He was a champ, enduring the 85+ degree summer heat in black leggings and ski boots and up for anything.

ON HAPPINESS

"I think happiness is such a unique and personal pursuit for everyone, and it constantly shifts and changes. I've come to understand that, for me, it is so much easier to find happiness when I get clear on my values and what I want."

ON AN INFLUENTIAL MOVIE

"I remember going to see Braveheart at the theater, with my uncle -- and it just blew me away. I was totally absorbed. It forever changed me and is still my favorite movie to this day."

ON HEROES

"... anyone who has chosen to be happy and radiate that energy outwards - these people, to me, are the most admirable because I know how powerful and inspiring it is to be in the contagious presence of such energy."

Asher Angel

Asher1.jpg

Last September, I had the great opportunity to shoot publicity shots for actor Asher Angel of Disney Channel's new show Andi Mack. The publicist only asked for a couple different looks and a few shots against a blank backdrop -- the rest was up to me.

TWENTY-ONE // Hockey player, Marc Cantin

MOTO

"I live my life with a hardworking mentality. I'm a firm believer that success and anything worth achieving is never given but earned."

HEROES

"For me, a hero isn't someone who becomes an overnight sensation or someone who attains a level of greatness in their craft but someone who influences those around them, at all times, to be better. For me, that person is my father."

ACHIEVEMENT

"My first memory of achievement was [when I was] drafted into the OHL [Ontario Hockey League] as a 15-year-old."

Khaki Cool

Swimwear designer Kortni Jeane and husband, Nico.

This is the fifth series of portraits I've done for the Gap at University Mall's Instagram. For the past couple of years, I've done one around the fall and another around the holiday season but wanted to mix things up and do one at the start of the year instead, so that I could lose the sweaters and scarves and incorporate a lot of khakis and basic tees.

I always enjoy offering to shoot these portraits. It provides a great excuse for me to invite, meet, and work with a handful of really talented individuals.
